The Importance of a Good Garage Door Seal
Having a reliable garage door seal is crucial to keeping out snow, leaves, water, and other elements. If your garage floor is uneven, a larger bottom seal can help close off any gaps.
Replacing a Garage Door Bottom Seal
Step 1: Remove the old garage door seal by lifting the door to about 6 feet high and pulling out the old seal through the gap behind the door track.
Step 2: Clean the track by scraping off any dirt and corrosion using a screwdriver and a stiff brush.
Step 3: Straighten the track by prying open the slots that serve as a track for the bottom rubber gasket on either end of the garage door, using a screwdriver. Ensure the tracks along the bottom of the door are straightened to facilitate the installation of the new seal.
Step 4: Lubricate the rubber and install the new seal. Mix a drop or two of dish detergent or other soap in a spray bottle filled with water. Spray the soapy mixture on the track and the new gasket to serve as a lubricant. To make it easier to feed the new gasket onto the track, hold the gasket at the same level as the track about 12 inches outside the door, then push and pull the new garage door bottom seal into the track.
Alternative Installation Method: 1. Align the track with the rubber strip. 2. Plug in the T-end side rubber at one end. 3. Squeeze in the other T-end side. 4. Install the seal step by step with the aid of a screwdriver.
